Pittsburgh Institution

Pittsburgh Institution is a minimum security facility, located adjacent to Joyceville Institution on Hwy 15, 24 kilometres northwest of Kingston, Ontario. The facility is designed to actively encourage and assist offenders to become law abiding citizens, and to achieve their earliest possible safe release into the community. The object of the project was to increase the capacity of the Institution from 105 to 240 inmates. It involved the renovation of two existing buildings for administrative use, and construction of new buildings for inmate housing including 25 townhouses, four neighbourhood buildings, a visitation centre, two family visit townhouses, gymnasium, carpentry shop, and vehicle maintenance facilities, inmate education, and corrections staff offices. Total building area constructed was 14,000 sq.ft.
